Reduction of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting project aims at reversing existing community peer pressure so village communities can emancipate themselves and their girls from the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The project is implemented in plan targeted areas in two governorates of Giza and Qalioubia. Reduction of FGM interventions included the following

  • Conduct of awareness seminars for women in FGM harmful effects;
    Formulation of local coordination and monitoring committees;
  • Training project staff and committee members on raising the awareness of the counter culture issues that prevents FGM and early marriage;
  • Training committee members and volunteers on advocacy, communication skills, project management, community mobilization and networking skills; and 
  • Assisting women to get their national ID and voting cards to enable them to actively participate in political life
